I-am-a-Heather exhibition announces artist list for upcoming show at Future Tenant,

April 19-May 17, 2008—MidShow Mixer, May 3, 2008, 7-9:30

Pittsburgh, PA—After months of searching, Heather M. & Heather J. have gathered together a group of artists from 9 cities across the globe, both male and female, ages ranging from 20 to 55. The I-am-a-Heather exhibition will feature 15 artists that are either named Heather or have created art around the name Heather.  The artists offer a wide range of media from paintings to interactive media pieces to an indie rock band.  The interactive exhibition will take place at Future Tenant downtown gallery space.

The artists in the show are as diverse as the heather plant itself, and represent many aspects of the contemporary art world today.

“We are pleased to have such a strong response to the show”, says Heather Mallak, curator of the exhibition.  “Heathers from all over the world responded, but unfortunately we had a limited number of spots.  The artists in the show really fit the concept of the I-am-a-Heather exhibition.  Although, all of the submissions we received were really strong and were very Heather-esque.”

I-am-a-Heather is an art exhibition composed of artwork by and about people with the first name Heather.   It intends to explore the social and psychological relevance and connotations of names. By observing artwork by Heathers from varying social and geographical climates, everyone is invited to consider the importance and impact of their own first name.

Coinciding with both the gallery crawl April 25, 2008 and the early May Carnegie International, I-am-a-Heather will engage and interact with Pittsburgh’s gallery scene and beyond.

MidShow Mixer May 3rd – 7-9:30 Reception at Future Tenant with Heathers, DJ, food and drinks then related 11pm Rock Show at Gooski’s in Polish Hill with Chicago trio Baby Teeth performing songs from their EP For the Heathers, paired with local drum duo Italian Ice.
