Future Tenant Announces
Spring Exhibition with Call for (Heathers) Artists
I-am-a-Heather—ART FOR ANYONE WITH A NAME
Future Tenant—Gallery 819 Penn Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15222
People often spend many years developing their identities. This is your chance to showcase yours. We are proposing potential particiaption of art/expression created by or about a Heather.
The exhibition, I-am-a-Heather, intends to explore the social and psychological relevance and connotations of names. By observing artwork by/about Heathers from varying social and geographical climates, everyone is invited to consider the importance and impact of their own first name.
Selected artists will be represented in both craft and character in digital format including large-scale prints and interactive media. Exhibition events coincide with both the gallery crawl April 25, 2008 and the Carnegie International opening on May 3, 2008; I-am-a-Heather will engage and interact with Pittsburgh’s gallery scene and beyond. Expect surprise guests, memorable performances and lots of Heathers.
The show‘s Curator Heather Mallak has contributed 10 years of coordinating, collaborating and performing with dozens of local artists to present 40some multi-level site-specific pieces in PGH. In May 2006, Mallak guest curated a “Rock n’ Roll rooted” Performance Art Event - “For Those About to Rock.” Artist from around the country engaged the 100s of attendees to the one night multiple location event.
“We are looking forward to making connections with Heathers across the Country and potentially beyond; and presenting it to Pittsburgh in a space that has been graciously facilitating to an experimental exhibition of this kind.” comments Mallak.
